Our Mission
Our Mission: What Are We Here For?
Freeing people by God’s grace to be a people of grace, bearing witness to grace.
God’s grace is the center of Christianity. Grace is the heart of the good news of Jesus’s death and resurrection. In grace God created us, saves us, grows us, and sends us into the world. We want that gospel of grace to be what animates us and what we are known for.
Our Vision: How Are We Getting There?
As we seek to be a people of grace, we work that outward through three gospel movements that build on each other.
Hospitality That Creates Community
The first movement is about our relational lives. It starts with hospitality, meaning not just the modern sense (having people over for dinner) or the more ancient one (allowing strangers to stay in our homes). Our culture is hostile to deep relationships because of its values and the busyness it demands. We want to intentionally open our hearts, lives and schedules to meaningful relationship. As we do that, we hope to be formed into a community of people, loving each other and developing deep, Christ-honoring connections.
Formation That Drives Invitation
The second movement has to do with our growth. To be a Christian is to be a follower of Jesus, seeking to be formed to be like Him. We want to grow and help others to grow in every dimension of our humanity—our minds, our hearts, and our actions. And we want to do this in a way that doesn’t pull us away from our neighbors but drives us towards them. To be followers inviting others to follow Jesus alongside us. Importantly, all of this builds on the first movement—both our formation and our invitation flow out of and into hospitality and community.
Mission That Leads to Multiplication
As we experience the first two movements, we prayerfully hope they will lead us to be engaged with God’s mission. We want to be a people tangibly working for peace and life in our city, seeking the common good and bringing light into darkness. As we do, we pray that God would multiply us. This includes individual multiplication, as other people come to know God’s grace for themselves. And, as God wills, it includes multiplication of us as a church—we would love to see God use us to plant other gospel-loving churches in Omaha and the surrounding communities.
Who We Are
Grace Central Church was formed in 1980 with four families, (3 of whom are still active in our church!) We are a diverse group of believers committed to the gospel, growing as disciples, and being about God’s mission in the world. We also strive to be a church planting church, having helped plant several churches in the Greater Omaha area.
What We Believe
Grace is committed to the authority of Scripture, the historic beliefs of the Christian church, and the high view of God’s grace recovered in the Protestant Reformation. We are a member of the Presbyterian Church in America and subscribe to the Westminster Confession of Faith as the doctrinal standard for our leaders. We are also a part of the Gospel Coalition.
